General Relativistic MHD Simulations of the Gravitational Collapse of a Rotating Star with Magnetic Field as a Model of Gamma-Ray Bursts

چکیده
We have performed 2.5-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the gravitational collapse of a magnetized rotating massive star as a model of gamma ray bursts (GRBs). This simulation showed the formation of a disk-like structure and the generation of a jet-like outflow inside the shock wave launched at the core bounce. We have found the jet is accelerated by the magnetic pressure and the centrifugal force and is collimated by the pinching force of the toroidal magnetic field amplified by the rotation and the effect of geometry of the poloidal magnetic field. The maximum velocity of the jet is mildly relativistic (∼ 0.3 c).

General Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of the Gravitational Collapse of a Rotating Star with Magnetic Field as a Model for Gamma-Ray Bursts
We have performed 2.5-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the gravitational collapse of a magnetized rotating massive star as a model of gamma ray bursts (GRBs). Initially, a few M⊙ black hole is produced at the center of the stellar remnant with a weak shock standing at a radius of a few hundred km and the post-shock gas falling onto the central black hole...

We have performed 2.5-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the gravitational collapse of a magnetized rotating massive star as a model of gamma ray bursts (GRBs). The current calculation focuses on general relativistic MHD with simplified microphysics (we ignore neutrino cooling, physical equation of state, and photodisintegration). Initially, we assume that...
متن کاملThe Proto-neutron Star Phase of the Collapsar Model and the Route to Long-soft Gamma-ray Bursts and Hypernovae
Recent stellar evolutionary calculations of low-metallicity massive fast-rotating main-sequence stars yield iron cores at collapse endowed with high angular momentum. It is thought that high angular momentum and black hole formation are critical ingredients of the collapsar model of long-soft γ-ray bursts (GRBs). Here, we present 2D multi-group, flux-limited-diffusion MHD simulations of the col...
متن کاملMagnetized hypermassive neutron-star collapse: a central engine for short gamma-ray bursts.
A hypermassive neutron star (HMNS) is a possible transient formed after the merger of a neutron-star binary. In the latest axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic simulations in full general relativity, we find that a magnetized HMNS undergoes "delayed" collapse to a rotating black hole (BH) as a result of angular momentum transport via magnetic braking and the magnetorotational instability. The outco...
متن کاملGeneral Relativistic Binary Merger Simulations and Short Gamma Ray Bursts
The recent localization of some short-hard gamma ray bursts (GRBs) in galaxies with low star formation rates has lent support to the suggestion that these events result from compact object binary mergers. We discuss how new simulations in general relativity are helping to identify the central engine of short-hard GRBs. Motivated by our latest relativistic black hole-neutron star merger calculat...
